Expectations on Technology

Technology is always changing. Whether if its on the internet with newer, faster services or new devices such as tablets, cell phones, or storage saving devices like the Cloud, technology is changing for better improvement. As a consumer, you want to have the newest technological device. Although people want the newest thing, how has technology changed the expectations on society as far as mass media? How has this helped with not only consumers, but with companies as well?

Technology has changed and consumers’ needs and expectations have evolved right along with it. According to Paul Weichselbaum, he believes that technology has changed, but consumers and companies may work together in order for success to happen. “The consumer is becoming the hub of a personal technology environment that can be as expansive as their increasingly connected home or small business, or as narrow as the smart device on which they depend while they are on-the-go. In this dynamic and complex world of technology, it’s not enough to support only one device, to limit your support to fixing problems when they happen, or even to support only your brand’s technology.” (Weichselbaum, 2014)
As far as technology affecting the societal world, we are now using technology more than ever. Social networks like Facebook, Instagram and others we use daily as a way to become a non-verbal social person. To elaborate, a person spends on the social network sites more times than talking on conversing with someone face-to-face. Society is based on what is the newest non face-to-face moment or social network to connect with other people. As Barry W.K. Joe, PHD professor at Brock University would say, “This generation moves along with the changes so easily to the point where you have created a cultural practice, and have learned to apply it to your everyday lives”.  In other words, has technology impacted society or humanity? Garrett Oden, The Brock Press, states ‘I find that many adults believe technology has turned us lazy” while Mr. Barry Joe’s opinion states, “we couldn’t text because we didn’t have it”. This is true because technology has made us socially better, able to complete tasks on the go, and be able to get what is going on in the world on fast internet delivery.
